What is IPL?
- Intense Pulse Light Technology or IPL- Using filters in the IPL handpiece, the light spectrum emitted from the flash lamp can be absorbed by oxyhemoglobin. The light is converted to heat-inducing ablation of vascular structures. This process of photothermolysis is one of the proposed mechanisms of action of IPL for dry eye, where wavelengths selectively destroy blood vessels by targeting chromophores within the blood vessels. The destruction of telangiectasias along the eyelid inhibits access of inflammatory mediators to the, Meibomian glands. Other potential mechanisms include a mild local warming effect to allow better expression of meibum and destruction of bacteria that cause inflammation at the level of the Meibomian Glands.
Before Your IPL
Avoid sun exposure a few days before to ensure a comfortable experience
and for maximum results. Do not wear makeup into the office. Your skin may be cleaned prior to IPL,
using a gentle face wash or cleansing wipe. Do not wear contact lenses into the office.

IPL Aftercare
Your skin may feel a little warm for the remainder of the day but shouldn’t feel any discomfort.
Makeup application immediately after your IPL session is acceptable. Use more caution with sensitive skin. In case of
an unexpected skin reaction, stop wearing any makeup. Wear sunscreen (30-50 SPF) and avoid tanning for at least 48 hours following
treatment to prevent hyperpigmentation. Use moisturizer and drink plenty of water. Don't use skin care products that have harsh chemicals or contain
high amounts of vitamin A, such as alpha-hydroxy acids, Accutane, Retin-A (tretinoin), glycolic acid, and retinoic acid
